Portal Development PlatformThe Portal Development Platform allows public health agencies to design applications that let the public explore and access a diverse range of health data sources. The Platform has a simple interface that minimizes the time dedicated to creating applications while providing the essential visual and interactive elements for public access to data. It was developed on opensource license with minimal technological requirements, minimizing the resources needed for its use and maintenance.
How to use the Platform
Four main steps are necessary to successfully design an application, with the first one taking place outside the Platform.
Step 1 - Prepare data
Before uploading the data into the Platform, it needs to be cleaned, validated and, depending on its source, transformed into a tabular dataset.
Step 2 – Load datasets
In the Load datasets tab, the prepared data is uploaded through familiar menus and metadata is filled to help identify and differentiate the datasets.
Step 3 – Design application
In the Design application tab, drop-down menus are used to add data-driven visualizations (charts, maps and tables), support elements (text and images) and interactive elements (filters, download options, sharing options). These elements can be combined and arranged in different ways to provide a user-friendly experience for exploring public health data.
Step 4 - Publish application
The application becomes available for public use and can be embedded in a designated webpage.
